Tawarri Hot Springs

In 2016 Gresley Abas were engaged to complete a concept design and master plan for a new Tawarri Hot Springs development on the site the historic Dalkeith Hot Pool and Tawarri Reception Centre on the banks of the Swan River.

Our proposal was to reinvigorate the foreshore with a fluid, graceful spa located atop a dormant hot spring. Our design is largely unobtrusive as it nestles alongside the riverbank, creating a new destination point for Perth - built upon heritage and water.

The building mass adapts sensitively to the shape of the site, and at the same time, gains elevated views across the river. Within the building, spa treatment and bathing spaces are located with discrete openings and private terraces providing views and connections to the river and surrounding bushland. Terraces run along the riverfront, allowing a seamless connection for recreational users of the foreshore.

A cafe, restaurant and function rooms provide places to gather, meet and relax – and to connect with the surrounding amenities and attractions. These spaces are flexible to allow independent or consolidated operations.

Our concept was to maintain public access across, through and around the site, and provide amenity and activity that will complement and enhance adjacent facilities. In doing so, the Tawarri Hot Springs development is designed to reinforce connectivity, activate the beautiful river setting and engage with the climatic opportunities of the site.

A welcoming and sensitive design that enhances the Nedlands-Dalkeith foreshore with new amenities and connections.
