Advocacy

At Gresley Abas we believe in being part of the conversation

Our practice leaders advocate strongly for positive change in all areas of the built environment. We have grown an office culture that supports and encourages all staff to participate in advocacy and professional and personal community activities.

We participate across a broad range of events and engage with many organisations and institutions to learn, share and grow conversations that can provoke change and grow community.

Tanya continues her leadership in the architectural profession with her appointment to the Architects Board of WA in 2021. Tanya’s advocacy for professional practice development within Gresley Abas and the wider design community is exemplary. She served for many years as a Councilor of the WA Chapter of the AIA and remains a member of the AIA’s National Contracts Committee. Tanya also sits on the Curtin University Design & Built Environment Advisory Board. Tanya has been made a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Architects in recognition of her contributions to the profession.

Meanwhile, Jonathan is an active advocate for design, education, sustainability, and social justice. For many years he has led design studios at Curtin University and is currently an Advisory Board Member for Interior Architecture at Curtin and an Adjunct Research Fellow at Notre Dame University. As a Green Star accredited Professional, he was recently appointed to the Green Building Council of Australia Sustainable Buildings Expert Reference Panel. Most recently, in acknowledgment of his commitment to social housing and affordability, Jonathan was appointed to the Minister for Homelessness’, Housing First Homelessness Advisory Group. Jonathan’s passion for Housing for All and a sustainable, equitable future drives his commitment to his advocacy and growth in these forums.

Continuing to work on several Design Review Panels for State and Local Government, Phil actively champions design excellence in architecture and urban design, improving outcomes for the community and the environment. Recently Phil was appointed to the Property Council (WA) Cities and Emerging Precincts Committee to further his participation in this broader conversation. He also continues to chair Cohen Connect, a not-for-profit working to both educate and benefit those in need within the built environment professions. In 2021 Philip was made a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Architects in recognition.

Our Office Manager and Associate, Kali, is the Secretary of the Association of Consulting Architects in Western Australia, supporting their work to focus on the business of architecture, promoting debate, and advocating for better business practices and legislative frameworks.
