Lot 203 Orsino Boulevard, Port Coogee
Gresley Abas has been engaged by Frasers Property to design a new mixed-use development in its Port Coogee Marina Village development area. The Marina Village is a vibrant and sustainable community with a strong connection to its picturesque coastal setting.
The design brief for the project was to create a place that promotes connection, congregation, and belonging. The objectives of the project are to:
create a sense of place through the introduction of tactile, colourful, vibrant, eclectic, and granular experiences.
celebrate and interpret the history and narrative of the place and find ways to integrate this into the fabric of the building.
provide places to enjoy the unique ocean side character of the area and connect to the esplanade and waterfront experiences. Inspired by seaside places such as the traditional southern European villages and the creation of a welcoming Mediterranean feel.
creating places for the community to connect, engage and interact.
create a dynamic and engaging built form through the use of robust and low-maintenance materials. Designed with specific attention to the impacts of wind
creatively integrate sustainability and technology into the urban and built form elements through a focus on passive design methodology maximising orientation and access to natural light and ventilation.
Design to create a gateway statement to the precinct that also addresses three unique streetscapes, promoting activity, porosity, and passive surveillance.
Gresley Abas have responded to this brief by creating a formally dynamic building with two distinct frontages in response to their unique urban character. The coastal location requires creative design strategies that balance architectural elegance with robustness to resist the challenging ocean-side environment.
