Mandurah Road Footbridge

Mandurah Road Footbridge

In 2013 the City of Mandurah engaged Gresley Abas Architects to integrate into the AECOM engineering team for a new iconic pedestrian bridge spanning across Mandurah Road (and the Perth to Mandurah Railway) from the new and existing adjacent developments to Mandurah Station. We were engaged to provide urban design and architectural design expertise including contributions to a series of workshops with the larger consultant team to assist in the determination of the most appropriate methodology to achieve the large 150m span, over a live, operational rail environment.

We have a long history with this bridge. In 2005 Gresley Abas, with Westcross Developments, was involved in the planning of Central Park TOD adjacent to the Mandurah Railway Station. The new development contains significant residential density within the walking catchment of the Mandurah train station, separated by Mandurah Road.

It was identified at this early stage (2005) that a pedestrian bridge over the road and rail environment would be necessary to service the predicted population increase in the area.

The project was completed in 2015.

Our vision for this important gateway project was to elevate a simple bridge into an icon for Mandurah, whilst maintaining engineering practicalities, budget and an extremely tight time frame.
