Gnarabup Beach Estate
Gresley Abas was engaged to design a tourist accommodation estate at this spectacular beachside site in Gnarabup.
The design philosophy of the proposed development was to provide a diverse range of accommodation types to create a vibrant, activated village, merging sensitively with the coastal natural environment. Strategies to achieve this aim included:
Adopting low-scale building heights and locations that maintain view corridors across the site at key areas;
Proposing various accommodation types for various markets, including Tourist Chalets, Cottages and Holiday Flats of various sizes and configurations;
Providing Tourist unit designs incorporating articulated facades and other elements to create a strong sense of human scale.
Providing a Café, Gallery and ground-level retail strata units in the Village Centre.
Selecting materials, colours, and construction methodologies that compliment the natural vegetation and blend into the natural surroundings;
Maintaining existing vegetation wherever possible;
Creating a range of public and private external spaces with permeable pedestrian access throughout the site;
Protecting significant features of value, including important topographical features such as the beachside ridges, high points, low points, the internal east/west ridge and assorted vegetation.
