Australind Community Precinct
The Australind Community Precinct (ACP) Master Plan is an important and complex piece of work focused on creating a new community focused heart to Australind while establishing the opportunity for commercial development and reinforcing and further building a wonderful connection to the inlet and the Ridley Foreshore, an iconic part of the area’s identity. Extending over numerous Shire owned sites and adjacent to the Shopping Centre and surrounding retail, commercial and residential facilities which have to date remained disjointed, the master plan seeks to create a new civic and town centre heart and by re-aligning a road which is currently peripheral, creating a new vibrant high street which consolidates Australind as a town centre rather than a set of disparate facilities.
Working with CCS Strategic, engagement of dozens of stakeholder groups and individuals including adjacent land owners was undertaken to arrive at a master plan that is soundly underpinned by the culture and values of the community and the Shire of Harvey. The master plan is defined by the establishment of a rich ‘heart’, a green, public place which retains all significant trees, establishes a place for gathering while connecting to the new Hub building, the shopping centre, a heritage cottage and a potential new development site intended for hotel accommodation. A new high street will host mixed-use sites, blending commercial spaces below and residential apartments above. The primary community hub building accommodates a large range of facilities including a new library, meeting and function facilities, reception and Shire office spaces, new Council Chambers, a café/bookshop and places for cultural and arts activities as well as landscaped and courtyard spaces to support activities.
The development of these facilities in conjunction with those of the sites established will create an important rich, active, recognisable and wonderful place and identity for Australind, its residents and community and visitors alike.
